During pregnancy I had a list of 10 girls names, and 10 boys names, but knew from day one I was having a girl -despite how many people argued with me over it. I had chosen one name that I really liked all through my pregnancy and told everyone that, that IS going to be the name. Unfortunately I started having doubts a couple of weeks before I went into labour. By the time I was in delivery suite, I loathed the name I once loved! lol Well I had my girl, and we were discharged 'Mother' and 'Baby girl'. I kept having phone calls from relatives and friends asking what her name is, and I kept having to tell them nothing suits her! It didn't help that all my family took one look at her said "Omg, Erin Jnr!". I think at about the end of the first week I actually seriously contemplated calling her Erin Jnr! Nothing else really fit her. I might add, it was a amazing - her next to one of my baby photos and you couldn't tell the difference!
About a week and a half (possibly 2 weeks by this point, I can't remember), I was on the phone to my dad again having a conversation about why I haven't picked a name. We started chatting about my great grandmother, who was unfortunately in a nursing home after having a stroke a couple of years earlier, but we were more concerned about how she was coping since my grandfather passed away only a few weeks earlier. Slightly depressed about this conversation, it ended shortly after and I was thinking about my great grandmother... then admiring her name, Lillah. Just thinking about it, I thought it was unusual, bit old fashioned (or maybe that's just because it was my G Grandmothers name), but I really liked it.
I went back to my list of girls names, which I had spent hours staring at and nothing I really liked, and the only name that stood out was Lily, but it still didn't suit my girl. Then, it was just like a bolt of lightening! I kept saying this name, then started writing down different spellings - Lilya, Lillia, Lilliah, Lilia, Lillya... I called my dad back and yelled "LILLYA!" lol To which I had to clear up confusion and explain "Lillah, and Lily make, Lillya... your first grandchild has a name!". ...So I was a bit more excited then him, but he was more touched about how I came up with the name. To round it off, she shares my middle name - after the week of "Erin Jnr" it was hard to get that mentality out of my head. And she was given her great grandmothers middle name also.
I think it was rather appropriate after I did some thinking about it. She is the first of the next generation.. -she made Lillah into a Great Great Grandmother!
-she made a Great Grandmother (who just thinks she's the bees knees). and
-apparently too soon made my parents grandparents lol. But, after all is said and done... she's truely made her name her own!
