Toilet Training Saga

Submitted by Tara

"My son will be 2 tomorrow and we are trying to toilet train him but its not working. The first time he went to the toilet but now he won't do anything. We have tried "you can have a lollie if you do wee wee" but the answer is always no lol. As soon as he gets off the toilet he will do it in his nappy or in the shower if he is having one. We have even brought him a toilet seat so he is more comfortable... but nothing is working!!"

I started toilet training my son just before he was 2, as he showed interest then..We started with a potty, and basically, rather then sitting on the floor he would sit on his potty, he knew when he did something because he would stand up and announce it. We made up a "Toilet Chart" , Everytime he did a wee in his potty he would get 1 sticker and everytime he did a poo he would get 2 stickers on the chart, once there was like 15 - 20 stickers he would get a "prise" we just brought a bunch of hot wheels (match box) cars and had them in a box for when he finished a row on the chart. It was the same once he started doing it in the "big" toilet, and for every stand up wee he did he got 2 stickers. For every night his nappy was dry in the morning, he would get 3 stickers. I really motivated him. He is now 3, sleeps in undies and takes himself to the toilet when he needs to go, apart from poo's as we need to lift him on the loo. Good luck. Feel free to message me for more advice if you need it and if I have the answers...
