I am a dental assistant and I think I could confidently say that a mouthguard (splint) would be very uncomfotable and your little ones for starters would not sit still for the dentist, and secondly wouldn't sit still for the necessary impressions for a plint/ mouthguard, (moulds that are taken to make sure the splint is fitted correctly) there are several visits that can be involved in getting the splint right. And it is a mouth full of hard plastic that you generally sleep with in.... Which i dont think would be safe for children....
I will have a talk to a dentist i use to workfor that was excellent with children, Or if you have a local dental theropist that you see & have a good reputation for working with little ones, and ask them for some advice.

Anyway Goodluck
