Salt on baby's food

Submitted by Zanabelle

"I recently made a big batch of vegies, mashed 'em up and put them in ice cube trays. I was very proud of myself and how productive and cost effective I could be...then Xander wouldn't eat it! I tried fighting him with it for a few weeks but he just refused to eat it. So last night I added a little bit of salt to it and he LOVED it.

The question is, how bad is salt for babies and why is it that salt is considered not healthy for babies?"

hey, yeah salt is really dagerous for babies its recommended that you dont give it to them for there first year of life, i was only just reading about this practical parenting the other month as a baby can not process the salt in there kidneys fast enough, ill link you to a story where a baby was eating its parents food and ingested 9g of salt in 1 day the the baby got brain damage and actually died http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/404667.stm

Here is another good site explanining it better than what i can! http://www.babycentre.co.uk/baby/startingsolids/saltexpert/

maybe instead of adding salt to the vegies how about some herbs or a bit of butter and milk to make it taste a lil diff i never had this prob my lil girl would woof everything down!! our first child though was a bit picky and still is to this day! good work though for doing the whole mashing the vegies your self the first time i did it i felt great to and at lest u know what ur putting in there lil tummies!!! all the best

ask your clinic nurse.... amazing i think some doctors are dumb i have a back problem and went to one guy he was awesome and helped alot and then went to another doctor while he was on holidays and he cracked my back and fucked it up again ( morone) and the other doctor went off his head and said he could have done some major damage doin what he did.   I dont trust doctors i always get 3-4 opinions. i also read that salt was bad and not to add any salt within there 1st yr maybe like lady above said try herbs or milk to make it taste better. do you want to take the risks of harming your lil man?

We have a Rottweiler nearly 2 yrs old although he's a big boy he's still a pup himself and he loves to play, he doesn't get to come inside but has sniffed around maddie when in her pram outside, he loves playing with our friends girl who is 18mnths cause she can run around after him i guess with a big dog you just have to be sure they are obedient cause if you say sit or no you want to be sure they stop what they are doing and obey.
