New Baby - is this much crying normal?
Submitted by Charli

"My baby is 3 weeks old and won't stop crying.  Is this normal? I've checked all the basics.. hungry? wet? uncomfortable, tired? wind? the works.  She doesn't seem to be in any pain or hurting at all... she seems to just like to cry.  It's really starting to take it's toll on me.  Is an everage of 6 hours crying a day the norm?  Has anyone else had this problem?  Did your babies out grow it?  How did you cope?  Please help!"

Hi are u breast feeding or on formula? If shes on formula maybe try changing her formula as my son was very unsettled on NAN once i changed formula he was fine! also do u wrap her up i know its hot but i found that settled my son. I dont know if u know of the baby talk like all the noises babies make have meaning here is the main ones

Neh: "I'm hungry"
Owh: "I'm sleepy
Eh: "I need to burp"
Eairh: "I have lower gas"
Heh: "I'm uncomfortable

there is a website where u can buy the DVD that explain these noises, and u see demonstrations, all babies make these noises, and some lady studied them and they worked out to mean the above.
Hope this helps.

At around that age my little girl did a lot of crying too. I was never quite sure what it was, but I did start giving her a dose of Infacol before every feed just to be sure it wasn't wind. I asked my Dr. about it at a 3 week checkup, and she said a lot of babies get tummy aches from the milk (breast or formula) for the first few weeks until their bodies learn how to digest it properly. Freya grew out of it by the time she was 2 months. I hope that helps!

Maybe shes colic? Are you breast feeding??? My first child screamed for 7 hours straight right after bringing her home. I was SO scared and didnt know what to do. I purchased mylacon (I believe that was what it is still called) and adventually had to switch her to formula because the breast milk just wasnt agreeing with her. ALSO look into DR. Brown bottles at some time down the road. They are made for this and THIS was my life saver! they are about 10-20$ a bottle...(cant remember) Hope this helps! Good luck to you.........the first few months are always an adjustment of OHHHH GOD HELP! hahahaha.....at least for me it was.

Hi Charli, I remember having a similar problem with my Charlotte, I looked up ways to deal with it on the net. And i found this MAGIC ina bottle.... haha It is actually call "Marina, infant colic mixture" it is so fantastic. it is all natural. It was on A current affair with Ray Martin about 2 years ago. I found a dose of this would calm her down so quickly.... I still dont know if she had colic, as it is something they just have to grow out of, you need to find something that works for "you"! there are quite a few NATURAL products available. Talk to your Pharmacist, they can be more helpful than your GP! And if you have a midwife you can talk to they are USUALLY not always, good to talk to! GOOD LUCK!

Heyy I think my baby went through that at that age too, but not all that much.. he was a lot better up until about 2 weeks ago (when he turned 2 months old) and hasnt stopped since, he goes for 2 hours a day, well night really, and only in the last few days ive learned that he probably has wind pain, or is overtired.. mostly wind pain though.. i thought no that cant be right i havent fed him for a while (yet his not hungrey) but once hes been held up and patted on the back for about 15 mins (and bounced because he likes that) hes alright... i hope this helps... i cant help you with if he stops or not, because mine wasnt that bad at 3 weeks, but is now.. so were going through the same stage now..................

Hi Charli, My son went through that stage. He had colic. I didnt think he did at the time, so i searched the symptoms on the net, and found out he had everyone matching. Does your baby cry, mostly in the late afternoon, night time? Nathan did, and thats when there usually crying more. I found it hard, as nothing could calm him down. So you can actually go to the chemist and get 'infacol wind drops' These were perfect on Nathan. All you do is put some into their milk, if you are feeding them by formula, or into their mouth, if your breastfeeding. See how that goes, i have a friend who had twins, and her son was constantly crying, she found that infacol worked a charm. I tried some other products for colic, and found that this one was the best result. I understand thats its taking toll on you, you poor thing. But colic, if your baby has that, grow out of it by 3 months. And now, nathan is as happy as ever! good luck xx
