Introducing Solids Early... how?
Submitted by Raechel

"My little boy Chad is 3 and a half months last week. I gave him some pureed apple for dinner and I knew it was a bit early but he slept all night so I kept it up - not sure how much to let him have though - he doesnt seem to want to stop? My last baby would never eat even till he was like 1 so this is new to me?? Anyone able to comment??"

I gave Kiara her solids early.. She was just shy of 3 months.. but all i gave her to start of was some rice cereal.. I guess you just play it by ear, like each child is different. Maybe mix some of the pureed apple with rice cereal because that is a bit more filling then just the fruit.. But dont let people tell you that you are doing the wrong thing. I had people doing that to me and it gave me the shits... I started off giving Kiara about as much as the size of a plum.. So long as you are still giving him his bottles along with it he wont go hungry :)

Hi, I did the same thing with my girl cos she wasnt getting enough nutrients from the milk by 3 1/2 months and was always hungry. Just stick with small amounts, generally no more than a tablespoon to begin with, and slowly increase the amount as he gets older. Even if he wants more you shouldnt give him too much as little babies need time to adjust to the new diet, or they will end up constipated. Also, stick to foods that rarely cause allergies, like rice cereal as above, fruits that are not berries and most vegetables. Good Luck

Like the lady above me said, alot of people dont agree with starting your little one on solids before the age of six months....My midwife always pushed the theory that its not good to start them too early. But my daughter would not put on weight... she had reasonably bad reflux though, and spewed everthing up anyway, but when i fed her the solids around about 4 months on wards starting with the Farex (baby rice cereal) I thought at least something would have stay down... But i didn't give her proper solids till she was 6 moths old, like she started having breakfeast lunch and dinner after the 6 month mark!

i started b on solids early..but just beware.. the only reason they say 6 months is coz the tummy hasnt developed properly b4 then and it means there is a highr risk of allergies.. so keep it to a minimum.. i gave b 2 meals a day at about 5 months and 3 at 6.. they will always seem like they want more.. but dont over do it.. the other reason is b4 6 months they are more likely to stop there sucking reflex.. which means its hard to get them to have a bottle or breast feed.. at a younger age they cant master the concept that u can eat off a spoon as well as haqve a bottle.. so just be well aware.. as i said dont over do it.. having said that i did start b early as i said.. u no ur baby and u will no when its time to give more..i think they are all hungry lil munchkins that would eat solids all day if they could.. its a novelty at first at least it was for Bray... anyway good luck with it all
