How do I get my baby to eat?
Submitted by Annie-Lee-Rummeny

"Lawson is 15mths old and it is impossible to get to eat ANYTHING really... His favourite foods are Yoghurt, Banana, cheese and vegimite sandwiches, and that is ALL he'll eat... (And sometimes won't even want them) I cook him vegies, and some kinda meat every night and try to give him different fruitm, but he just refuses to even try it. He'll throw it everywhere and scream to high heavens until he gets what he wants. He eats Breakfast OK usually wheat-bix cos' he likes that, but nothing else for breakie. Lunch he'll only eat a yoghurt (sometimes) but then doesnt want anything else. He has 2 bottles still everyday of cows milk before nap and bed time... But I just can't seem to get him to eat ANYTHING at dinner time.

I've even tried offering the whole "offer him what I've made him and if he dosen't want it then he goes to bed with nothing so he'll learn to eat now or go hungry" thing... but he's fine with that he'll sleep right through!!! I'm really worried that if he dosen't try different things or keeps eating the same things it'll be bad for him. Does anyone have any ideas on how to gt a fussy toddler to eat? Eat anything??? cos' he'll go all day sometimes with just his Breakfast and refuses everything else all day long"

He Annie, At 15months they seem to go through a fussy stage - I know Gregory did. My feeling is that at least he is eating, even if it is only certain foods. At times Gregory only wants to eat muesli bars!! You could try mixing his favourite foods with other foods? Maybe have him help you cook with the foods. Gregory LOVES being near/in the kitchen (safely of course). They the have ownership of what they are eating. Maybe try adding some fruit to his weetbix? He may not even notice and just eat it :o) 2 bottles is fine too... they still need their calcium.

I've also been told that it can take up to 10 tries for bubs to adjust to new foods (taste and texture). Also... if you give him what YOU want him to eat, if he doesnt eat it he goes hungry. I know this is harsh but he wont starve himself, he will eventually eat what he is given. Hope this helps! Good luck :o)

Hi id suggest to jsut keep doing what ur doing maybe hes jst not that hungry or his taste buds arnt developed enough yet so hes finding some stuff abit bland ect. my daughter is 17mthsand shes been eating since she was 4 mths i do have trouble somtimes cos she gets bored of cereal in the morning and doesnt like vegies very much but i usally give her what im eating for tea and if she doesnt want it then she goes with out cos she cantbe that hungry she also has a bottle b4 bed so i try not to stress cos shes gettng that. shes eats great during the day. also i cook te early around 5ish cos she goes to bed around 6:30-7pm so i like her to have tea early so shes not to full for bed and so ses not to tired when shes having it or she doesnt seem interested and jsut wants her bath and bed. So yeah jsut try differnet stuff and keep doing what u doing i guess i think if he is really hungry he would eat so dont stress to much.
Good luck
