Formula Trouble
Submitted by Kaela

"Can anyone help? I have tried my son on almost every formula with no luck.
First I had him on Karicare, but he had allergic reactions (rashs, projectal vomiting) The doctor sugested a soy substitute, so we tried Infasoy. He didn't like it and refused to drink it (dont blame him soy milk yuk). I have also tried Nan-ha, but he can only drink a few little sucks and then starts screaming. Any sugestions on what to do as I am going to tafe and am not expressing enough milk for him as I'm away from him 4 days a week"

Hi Kaela, My son Nathan, didnt like S26 Gold, S26, NAN or anything. So i put him on a sy based, as he was lactose intolerant. I first put him on Karicare Soya Formula, but i cant seem to find it on the shelves anymore, so nows hes on Infasoy. He didnt like it at first, and i agree it is soy and it smells grose. But after a while he got used to it. Maybe try expressing milk through a breast pump. Im not sure i havent really been through your situation, but try and give Trisicillian a call. They seem to know alot. Or go back to your midwife maybe. Good luck :)

Hi Char. my daughter was lactose intorlerant. we use to get karicare delact on a script for her. as we had all the tests done for her. just ask ur doctor to give u a script. if ur unable to get one u can only get the karicare delact from a chemist. but its only bout $15 a can and its really good.

Hey there, when I had to take charlotte off the breast i was told by a fantastic pediatrician to put her onto  heinz nurture 2, not the gold labelled one just the normal one with a red lid. Amazingly, it is only $11 a tin from big w, it doesn't taste terrible, and charlotte took straight to it. didn't want the boob any more, try changing your bottles as well, i had to buy the most expensive one for charlotte, hahaha the avent bottles, but being 7 months, 2 bottles should be enough. Goood luck!

Thanx everyone, I tried the heinz nature and he is drinking it and so far not to much has come back up so hopefully it will be good. It's funny cause mum and i always said heinz isnt really a formula brand so we were alsways a bit iffy on trying it but thank god i did. Thanx again

Your baby will only be a baby once and for a very short time. You have one shot at getting it right. Why would you submit your baby to the ill effects of formula feeding when you have the perfect food for him in your breasts? I just don’t understand why you would persist with formula when it is making him sick.  TAFE can wait. Your baby’s health is your priority. You have a responsibility to him to ensure he grows up as healthy as possible and breastfeeding is the only way to do this.
