Could I be pregnant?
Submitted by Steph

"I was just wondering if anyone knows the chances of getting pregnant with an implanon in your arm? Because my mum made me get one after Destiny was born and after a few weeks of having it in, I got my periods non-stop for a few months so I told my mum I wanted it out and she wouldnt let me get it out coz she didn't trust me to not get pregnant. I went to the doctor saying I had my periods non-stop for almost 6months and he still wouldn't let me get it out. (male doctor, im sure he would have taken it out if he knew what periods were like.) Anyway, just recently they have stopped for about 4-6weeks and i've been heaps moody and tired and stuff. Is there any chance that I could be pregnant? Has anyone heard of someone conceiving with the implanon inserted? It's meant to stop eggs being released so I dont know whats wrong with me. Love to hear your comments please.!"

I doubt that you could be pregnant with the implanon implant in but i would get yourself to a doctor as soon as possible because if you are pregnant there can be serious effects to the baby.

I agree with above, and i dont think the chances are really high but i dont think implanon is for you if you have been getting your period that much. The same thing happened to my sister and she ended up with an iron deficiency because she was losing so much blood. come to think of it, iron deficiency makes you tired and moody, so it could be caused by the implanon itself. Not healthy.

I too have the Implanon rod in my arm. The doctor i had to put it in told me that you get your period irregular for the first few months and then they normally completely stop. Mine were the total opposite. I didnt have a period for 3 months now they are really irregular sometimes getting them 3 times in one month. So i went to see my regular doctor & he said to me that it normally settles down in 6 - 7 months once your body gets used to it. But he told me if they dont then to go back in and get it taken out, but he also said that it does take some people's bodies time to get used to it.

I don't think you would be pregnant, ive been told that it is extremely hard to get pregnant with it in your arm But if you are really worried then go and see a different doctor about it. Alot of doctors have different opinions.

Good luck .. if you have any questions just let me know :)

steph this has nothing to do with the implanon and getting pregnant, but unless your under 18 who the F*ck can tell you what you can and cant have? if you want that rod taken out of your arm the doctor CANNOT refuse. dont do/have something because your mum or doctor told you to, do it for yourself and have what YOU want!

hey! I have a implanon an i get my period for weeks at a time an often my doc said if they dont settle soon he will put me on the pill for a few months coz its meant to sort it out. I have also been wondering the chances of getting pregnant with it in. but i really dont think tis very high. Just go see another doc and see what they say.
GOOD LUCK! Xx
