Perfect baby? No, colic baby.. what can I do?

Submitted by Courts

"I'd like to say that I am wonderful and I have a perfect newborn.
But I REALLY need some help, Madeleine is a really unsettled baby I am sure it is colic, has anyone got any good advice on how they dealt with a colicy baby.... I have not been getting more than 3 hours sleep all weekend.
Just so much screaming, I have been using white noise, and the vaccum noises on the Sounds for silence CD, only works for a short time.
I have tried Marina infant colic mixture, I am using Infacol before each feed.... I just cant seem to win... nothing is working. I bought a bouncer that vibrates... she hates it, I dont think it is Cushy enough.
I dont know what else to do, I have been to the doctors with her, and because she is not one month yet, then their isn't alot she can have.

PLEASE HELP ME! "

Are you breast feeding? Because when I had my little girl 5 weeks ago, the first week was terrible, she was unsettled, kicked her legs around like she was cramping up, It turned out my milk wasnt coming through well enough and the poor little darling was hungry! And of course I had no idea, so I didnt have any formula in the house, I had to put up with her screaming for 8 hours straight..But once my milk came through it was all good. How old is she? Message me at my space if you like.

I found that patting Scarlett (my little girl) just above the bum really helped settle here when we were having a tough time...remember she was hungry not colicy.
Just thinking, it could be the same thing...Not saying it is, but just throwing it out there so you know there is more then just colic that it could be.

Hope things get better soon...Hang in there darling!

All in all, my sweetheart carried on for about 2-3 weeks..but my milk took a while to totally come through at the right amount.

Yes I am Breast feeding, but my milk is DEFINITELY in hehe, there is alot of it and i think that might be one of the problems, she is gulping the milk plus alot of air down as well.

I got some stuff called Donnalix yesterday and used it last night and my darling little girl was a completly different bub.... AMAZING STUFF it is....

So we will see how things go from here.

I dont particularly like giving medicine all the time, so i am going to see about taking Maddie to the chiropractor, apparently readjusting them can help too... so we'll see huh.

I know exactly hoe you feel Courts... Lawson had colic for 5 months when he was a tiny baby I kept holding onto the advice that it'll pass after approx 2 months old but NO IT DIDNT!!! I hope your lucky but....
I have tried every single trick in the book just about... and all the different medicines and stuff to give them, I found the best was infants friend, Panadol when shes over 1 month (dont be afraid to give panadol every 4-5 hours if need be!!) There is no such thing as a cure for colic and nothing that the doctor can prescribe to you either (sucks)

I would have days (and nights) when we had NO sleep, Lawsons record was 9 hors on CONSTANT crying I had the neighbours keep coming over to see if everything was alright but there wasnt anything I could do to make him stop...

But I did find relief..... and that was hot water bottles or them wheat packs you put in the microwave!!! They were a god send!!! being so little but only heat them slightly or wrap in a tea towel and let cool a bit but place it on her belly or lay her on her belly on top of pack and pat her on the back to settle her down..... The Chiropractor!!! it done the trick to I didnt think itd work but I took Lawson to a chiropractor after reading in a magizine that it can help for colic, and he was great for about a week it didnt stop it but definatly gave him relief for a while, its not rough they just poke a few places near the spine Lawson was asleep and didnt even wake up through it!! also Infants friend before and after feeds.... bounceing him up and down would calm him also, and for some reason this wind up mobile that played a tune worked pritty good to (just took his mind off it) Id also lay him on his back and push his legs into his chest and keep doing that itd usually take a few mins but hed end up birping or farting pritty soon after....

its all about patience and perserverance, try anyhting and everything and you'll find something and pray they grow out of it soon!! Also car trips can give them wind so try stay outta the car for long periods of time.... Hope one of these things can work for you!!! Good-Luck!!

Hope things are on the improve in your house!
If not, my bestie used 'Brauer' Colic Relief from the Chemist with her little girl. Its a homopathic range that also has teething relif etc and she swears by it.
Anything is worth a go by the sound of it. Remember it won't last foerver although somedays it probably feels like it!
Good luck

Hope u are finding relief!
Your baby being so little try proping her legs up with folded blankets and wrapping her legs up at her chest with a tight muslin wrap.
Also when ever you hold her (if she likes being on her back) make sure your hand closest her legs always has her legs lifted up, it will relieve her.
When putting her to sleep if she likes being on her back crunch her legs into your tummy (works best if u sit and have her on her back - lying on your knees) and rock your knees left to right. Miracle hold!! Message me on myspace if u don't understand but I promise I have got most of my friends newborns to sleep like that!
Also a hold u can use as your baby gets older is to place your princess on her tummy across your forearm - you'll know when it's right cause it should work instantly (but a hint of how it should look to you is that she will be looking at the floor)
Hope this works!!
