"We live in an apartment and our neighbours are really close (closest neighbour's bedroom wall ajoins ours).  Our five week old baby cries each night (and during the day which I'm not worried about), sometimes going really wild and for extended periods but not hours.  If we pick him up it doesn't really seem to help him settle or it seems extends his crying.  So I feel it's better to put him back to bed as soon as he really starts to get hysterical because at least he can then start the settling process.  I worry about what the neighbours think, no-one has said anything but we are doing our best we hope for baby and ourselves."
